It's one of the ideological quandries which never goes away - is it better to work for change within existing power structures which necessarily involves compromise or is it better to be pure and stay outside - or might there be a third way? The answer that I am living (which happened as much by accident as design) is the first approach. My new job is in the belly of the beast of capitalism - a non-public academic library serving a business school. It would be an unfair exaggeration for me to say I identify with Angel and his team when they decided to work for Wolfram & Hart, knowing they would be tempted to compromise and forget what they believe in, but that they could also try to use the resources of the position for good.
There is no parallel - MBA students and business academics are not at all like the minions of an evil inter-dimensional law firm. Most of them are actually very nice and reasonable people. In every other way, this job seems perfect.
